Understanding your NDIS plan
Your plan is a budget organised around your goals. Here's how to read it — and get the most from it.
The three budgets
Core supports
Everyday support: daily living, community access, transport and consumables. Usually the most flexible budget — funding can generally move between core categories as your week changes.
Capacity building
Supports that build skills and independence — therapy, skill development, support coordination. Funding stays within the category it was allocated to.
Capital
Bigger one-off items: assistive technology, equipment and home or vehicle modifications. Tied to the specific items in your plan.
Reading your plan with confidence
- Start with your goals. Everything in the plan hangs off them — supports are funded because they help you pursue those goals.
- Find your budget totals for each of the three areas, and note which are flexible.
- Check how each budget is managed (self, plan or NDIA) — it can differ per budget. Our plan-management guide explains what that means.
- Know your dates. Plans run for a set period — a reassessment date is your moment to adjust funding, so keep simple records of what you use.
Providers charge against your plan at rates set out in the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits — the official price guide. Asina charges in line with it, and your exact rates are always written into your service agreement before support starts.
Getting help with your plan
If you have support coordination funded, your coordinator helps you find and connect with providers. A plan manager helps with budgets and invoices. And you can always call the NDIA on 1800 800 110, or call us on (02) 8320 1292 — if we're not the right fit, we'll point you in the right direction anyway.
